1. National Youth Information
and Counselling Service
Youth Information and Counselling Centre of Slovenia (MISSS) was
founded in 1995, as non-governmental non-profit organisation. Currently,
we are working as national youth information and counselling service,
thus collaborating with 16
regional and local youth information and counselling centres
throughout the Slovenia. The local YIC, applying the European standards
and principles of generalistic youth information work, disseminate
information in their local space and provide counselling in choosing
the right information.
The activities and praxis of National Youth Information and Counselling
Service (MISSS), as well as those of the regional and local youth
information and counselling centres, therefore, must be in accordance
with ethical and professional principles, based in the UN Convention
of the Rights of the Child (1990), with the Constitution of the
Republic of Slovenia (1992), as well as with the European
Charter of Youth Information and Counselling for Young People,
adopted in 1995 on the General Assembly of the ERYICA, in Bratislava.
Following these sources and taking into consideration the European
White Book, as well as several other documents, National Youth Information
and Counselling Service has elaborated the standards and premises
for further development of youth information services in Slovenia.
The document - Information
and Counselling for Young People in Slovenia, therefore, provides
basic standards and directives for the activity of national and
local YIC. Using the open method of co-ordination, the document
has been prepared in 2003, on the initiative of the Office
of the Republic of Slovenia for Youth and with collaboration
of the local YIC.
National Youth Information and Counselling Service provides several
means of support for local YIC. MISSS, thus, provides for them youth
information of national and transnational importance and mediates
in exchanging local information. It also maintains a national youth
database with collected information on the programs for youth, held
in Slovenia, and the organisations that perform these programs for
youth (available on the first page of this website).
MISSS has been a member of European
Youth Information and Counselling Agency (ERYICA) since 1995.
2. A local Youth Information
and Counselling Centre
Along with its activities on the national level, MISSS operates
as a local info-center in the the quarter of Dravlje in the northern
part of Slovenian capital, trying to counsel youth and help them
in their decisions and planning. It disseminates information in
the center, as well as via street work, workshops etc.
In case of heavier problems, a professional therapeut is also available.
3. Therapeutic advisory
centre
Therapeutic advising is available for youth, for their parents
and educators. It is available as previously agreed by the therapeut
and the user. The therapeutic session can be applied for by phone,
each working day between 8 A.M. and 7 P.M. Counselling is also available
by phone or by e-mail.
4. Youth-to-Youth Phone
Youth-to-Youth Phone is intended for youngsters in the age of growing
up. Youngsters on the phone-line are trained to answer their peers
either to solve their problems or simply to talk to them when they
need conversation with a person of thei own age.
During the last few years, youngsters working on the phone-line
have also formed a specific form of a self-help group.
The Youth-to-Youth Phone operates each working day between 3 P.M.
and 5 P.M, it is available on the phone number +386 (0)1 510 16
75.
5. Preventive Programs
for Young People
Several preventive programs, mainly workshops for young people,
are simultaneously designed as preventive programs, as well as an
information dissemination tool. This is especially true in case
of Youth-to-Youth Phone and in the case of the workshops "Growing
up and us". The latter are designed as an informal discussion
on the topics of sex, addictions, interpersonal relations etc. and
are also a part of disseminating information on all of the above
topics, as well as on the possiblity of getting generalistic information
in the YIC.
6. Training and Education
In the field of youth information and counselling one of the most
important activities is training for the local youth information
workers. Training is performed using the common methodology of training
for the information workers in the European countries. The methodology
for the MBTC
(Minimum Basic Training Course for Novice Youth Information Workers)
has been provided by the ERYICA,
under the patronage of the Council of Europe. After successfully
completing the course, trainees obtain a certificate from the ERYICA.emov,
ki jih imajo tako uporabniki kot tudi sami izvajalci.
